DOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE to BAR HARBOR, MAINE (SEP. 8, 2009)

Hello, from Bar Harbor, Maine!
We made it here in about five hours from our campground (just outside Dover, New Hampshire).
Not a very exciting drive, since quite a bit of it was on the Turnpikes...
I believe Luanne told me it turned out to be around 6 or 7 bucks in tolls, which isn't all that bad... Especially since it cost us what? 23 bucks? on the Pennsylvania Turnpike...
Jack/Molly had us going down to Portsmouth before heading up to Maine, but I nixed that idea... Look at the map... Cut out quite a bit of driving by cutting over to I-95 on Hwy 9... So that's what we did... And then, when we got up to Brunswick, we did the same thing... Cut over on Hwy 1, instead of driving through Augusta (the Capitol, by the way) and up through Bangor before turning down toward Bar Harbor...
Long story short, it probably took us an hour, or more to do it my way...
A lot of driving through towns and villages (it really got boring driving the Pike... Not much to see at all because of the trees that lined the road... There were only a few places where we could see the countryside), but we're glad we took the extra time...
We're at a fantastic campground, and I'll show you pictures of it tomorrow, or whenever... An ocean inlet is in front of us, and everything is nice and neat...
Got the trailer situated without any problems, and Luanne did a couple of hours of very needed laundry... Then we headed into "The Village" as they call Bar Harbor here... It surprised me a bit to find that the town is probably 12 -15 miles away from our place, but it was well worth the drive...
Had a bowl of clam chowder at one of the many eateries, then walked a couple of the too many streets to "see" in one day, until it got dark and it was time to head home.
What a quaint and picturesque place!
The shops... The boutiques... The restaurants... Fantastic!
All I thought it would be... And to top it all off, we have the Acadia National Park right here on our doorstep, so we have plenty to keep us occupied for the next twelve days! That's really wonderful to say: TWELVE DAYS! Haven't had the luxury to spend that much time in one place for a long, long time...
I don't know if I'll be writing every day while we're here, but I'll try to keep you up to date on the pictures we take, so with that, have a great rest of the week... Take care of yourselves, and keep in touch!
