Hey again... This time from Omaha, Nebraska...
I'll try to be brief with my Blog tonight, because I'm tired after a somewhat scary night, and then fighting almost 100 degrees temperatures (and almost as much humidity) all day long...
It was around 2:30 this morning when the thunder shook the trailer (and it's occupants) to the bone... And the lightning and thunder lasted a good couple of hours, I believe... Got a little groggy after a while...
The center of the tempest must've gone right over us, because, from the time of the flash, there wasn't enough time to count to two before the clap of the monster was heard.... I can't remember if I've ever been in a storm like this.... Just the pelting of the rain was enough to scare the beejeevies (that might be a new word?) out of you...
And, to top it all off... In only a matter of half an hour after it all ended, the roar, clang, and the bang of a garbage truck passed by our little home on wheels, and he was very busy with something for a good 10-15 minutes....
Of course, just as the quiet engulfed us once more, the operator of a (BLANK) train decided to blow the whistle.... Not once or twice, but nine times! I counted them!
Not a good night for sleep, I'm affraid...
So that was that... We actually got off to a good start, albite a bit on the tardy side, and headed for Omaha, which is only about 20 miles from us, as the crow flies...
Passed by Boys Town (did you see the movie with John Wayne?) on the freeway, and made our way to the only Costco store in Nebraska.... Parked, but then couldn't find my wallet, so back to the freeway... Only gone about four miles when I found the wallet laying by my feet... Lu wasn't very pleased, but restrained herself quite well... I admire that in a woman! Don't think I'b be quite so forgiving, but who knows?
So back we went... Actually just for a scouting expedition... Get the feel for the land, so to speak, because we needed staples that would spoil if we got them then... So... Off to Omaha... Only a few miles down Dodge Road.... Decided to take a trip into Iowa, just to get a picture of the welcoming sign for Nebraska (Sorry, you won't see it.... Turned out very blurry) since we didn't get one yesterday...
Had no problem parking in the Old Town Market area.... Tried to find the Visitor's Center, but somehow got turned around a couple of times before getting it right... We were hot, hot, hot by the time we entered the premises... Spent some time chatting (and cooling down) with the hired help, then hiked down to the River Walk, where we spent another half hour in the scorching sun, but it was worth it.... Man, that place is gorgeous!
Dashed back to the Visitor's Center to use the facilities, and to cool down... If they'd had a shower, I'd have used it!
We then walked into the Core of the Market to do some looking.... Found lots of things, but the main one was a brewery, where we had a great lunch... After that, some more looking.... Finally left and headed back to Costco, where we did some major damage to the wallet... (should've left it at home!)
At home, Lu went straight to the pool, while I laid down for a bit before joining her.
Nice ending to a long day.... Good night everyone... Catch you tomorrow...
