PORTSMOUTH and HAMPTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE (SEP. 6, 2009)

Two blogs in one day... Not bad for a sick old man, huh?
As I eluded to in my last Blog, I felt good enough this morning to throw caution to the wind and take off for a look-see at what the neighborhood had to offer...
I still ache to no end, and my nose is competing with Niagra Falls, but as long as the tears from my headache don't blurr my vision, Lu said she was willing to give it a go... Bless her heart!
The neighborhood....
I tell you, there's nothing like catching the first sight of an ocean that vanishes over the horizon... Of course, the Atlantic Ocean is both near and dear to this ol' Norwegian... I grew up playing on the shores on the other side of that horizon, and I love it... Plain and Simple.
We were running low on diesel, and every gas station we passed didn't have any, so we drove around for a while looking, until we remembered that "Molly" could direct us to one... Duh...
A sidebar here: "Molly" has now been replaced by the voice of "Jack."
Couldn't stand the complaining any more... Jack seems to be a nice fellow, and more laid back, so we'll see what happens... At least got us to the needed diesel without fuss, so there's a pluss.
From Portsmouth, we drove Hwy 1-A (the coastal route) down to Hampton... Stopped here and there to oogle at everything, then headed back to Portsmouth, where we parked and walked for a while... Stopped a guy, walking his dog, and asked him where we could find the best clam chowder in town... He directed us to The River House, which we found after some more driving and walking... Really a cool place... Just the kind of place Lu and I love to stop at... Didn't sit outside since my "cold-flu" was acting up, but we had a window seat right next to the outside dining deck, and we had a fantastic lunch!
Unfortunately, my aches and pains didn't want to leave me, so we decided to head home, and try again tomorrow... It's heck on wheels to get old, folks! But, as the wise man said, It's better than the alternative.
With that, I bid you a fond good night...
