RAINY LAST DAY IN MYSTIC, CONECTICUT (OCT. 3, 2009)

It started pouring down before we got out of bed, and it kept on pouring all morning, and into the afternoon…
Not a good way to end our time here in Mystic, but what can you do?
Rain, though, sometimes gives you the opportunity to spend a few moments relaxing, or, in our case, planning future moves…
Between the computer, maps, the GPS, and the phone, we have now managed to confirm reservations into December (plus the week in February, in New Orleans, as I surely must‘ve told you, in my Blog, yesterday)…
Looks like both Thanksgiving and Christmas will be in Florida this year, and that’s certainly a departure from the past… Should be interesting to see how well we all adjust to that…
Aside from the “drudgery” of reservation-making this morning, we had a couple of nice surprise: Two calls on SKYPE…
First one was actually a bummer, since my uncle Olav (from Sandefjord, Norway) called… Saw his face, but didn’t hear a thing he said… We hung up frustrated, after which I immediately dove under the settee, where Luanne usually roost, to check the cause… Loose microphone wire!
As soon as that was taken care of, Terry and Gede came on the “tube,” and we had a nice chat, although a bit staccato when it came to picture quality… Wonder if SKYPE will ever fix that problem?
Anyway, shortly after noon, Olav called back, and this time we could see, as well as talk to each other… Lots of fun for me (to practice my Norwegian), but maybe not so much for Luanne… She’s a trooper, though, and doesn’t mind, so we’re cool…
Took a short nap while the rain petered out, then drove over to the Foxwoods and MGM Grand casinos (they’re interlocked)… Had no idea you could find Las Vegas right here in the middle of the woods of Connecticut…
This place is humongous, and all enclosed! Besides the casinos, there are what seems like miles of shopping “boulevards” with everything from designer boutiques, designer restaurants, and shops, and theaters, and everything else of all sorts…
I was impressed, but lost that intimidation as soon as we ordered a Bud Light… $4.90, thank you… All I can ask is, Why?
We headed down to the outskirts of Mystic (just outside our camp ground), where Lu spotted a cute pizza joint a few days ago… There we had a Hawaiian pizza that was scrumptious, at a reasonable price… It can be done…
Home to write these few word, and now it’s time to end this mess…
Leaving for Chestnut Lakes RV Resort, in Port Republic, New Jersey, in the morning, and that’s a fairly long drive for us, so we’ll see if there will be any writing tomorrow…
Oh, before I forget… Because of the weather, I only took a few pictures today, which I won’t post today… I‘ll wait until my next Blog… Sorry…
Ta… Ta… Good folks!
