Greetings, fellow earthlings....
Well, we made it to Mitchell, S.D.... A mere 270 miles East of Rapid City (on mostly a flat-as-a-pancake interstate)... There were the odd hilltop and valley, but they were far between, so the ride was a bit on the boring side, especially after having to traverse the Rocky Mountains lately...
They made it interesting though (the highway guys), because there were at least two long stretches of more than 18 miles each) that were one lane in each direction..... Lots of construction during the summer season, and a long line driving behind me at 60 MPH.
Luanne took a bunch of pictures along the way, as you can see on our Picasa Web Album:

We pulled into the R & R Campground around 2:30, but it was actually 3:30, since we crossed into the Central Time Zone somewhere along the road.... Took a short nap, then hit the pool.... Heated pool, mind you, and we had it all to ourselves! Ahhh, what luxury!
We basked in the sun and the water for a while, then headed into town to find the "Corn Palace" which was quite a sight.... And quite the tourist attraction..... I've read about this place many times in one or another of my travel magazines, so I knew about it, but it's something else to see things like this in person.... I was impressed.... No, really, I was..... Don't usually ohh and ahh over things like this, but this one was intriguing.....
After getting out of there with a minimum purchase, we walked the main street for a while, and, of course, Lu spotted an old tavern (well, it was made to look old), which we entered, and ended up getting some suds and a plate of deep fried vegies, which turned out to be really good!
The ol' waist line is growing!
That's it.... We're here for one full day (tomorrow), then on to North Dakota.... Take care, and keep an eye open for us.... Hasta la Bye Bye...
